With QS, I think you need the itunes plugin then you have to tab over a menu or two and start searching.this is one of my main gripes with QS and why I use launchbar With launchbar you just cmd-space and type the name of the song or artist you want to play and hit enter. You can select songs with QS, just not as nicely as launchbar. Launchbar OTOH, catches "personmob", "personhome" etc first try, without substeps. To make matters worse, I can't just hit '/' and type "mobile" to sub-search. In Quicksilver, it correctly selects the contact, but you have to use another key (right arrow, '/') to delve deeper. The behaviour I'd like to see is me being able to type the "personmob" or "personhome" and their mobile or home number come up.
Yes, the Address Book module is loaded, and names are coming up. If you do get a name, press the down-arrow key and then the right-arrow key, and you should see all of the information you have for them in the AB. I would have thought that would have been one of the default ones, but I'm not sure.Īre you actually getting any peoples names on the search? If not, it's probably not loaded (or hasn't created its catalogue). Make sure you have the address book plugin loaded. doesn't go deeper without another keytap. Similar with any "personmob" kind of thing. One thing that it seems I can't do in QS is type something like "jessmob" to bring up Jess' mobile phone number. I want it to be cool from the first launch, and I'll sacrifice many 'features' - or a few bucks - to save myself the annoyance and time investment. It's obtrusive as hell until you fiddle and tweak and do all sorts of stuff, then it's cool.
but it's not better in the way I expect Mac apps to be. it's obviously more powerful, extensible, configurable, etc. I didn't buy a Mac to do that.ĭon't get me wrong, I'm not calling the app bad per se. Yes, and I hear the same thing about Windows, Foobar 2000, Linux or any number of other applications that have awesome power but require me to root around the guts to get it working the way I want. Once you really get into the guts of configuring QS, what you can manipulate with it is almost limitless. It worked as the web page said in one picture. I double-clicked to install, the app started, I hit cmd-space and the little menu came down. I think that once you figure out how things work in general, the interface is superb. I think Quicksilver just has a steeper learning curve, arguably due to its woeful lack of introductory documentation.
If Quicksilver is 'right' then I prefer being wrong. While the interface isn't too easy to get (and I think it is because it is done right, which is quite unusual for OS interaction-like apps) I think the problem is that we aren't used to this kind of interaction.ĭefault Folder was a fuck-ton easier to set up and use.
